Seit 26 Jahren wird Belarus diktatorisch regiert. Nach dem bei den Wahlen im Sommer massive Manipulationen nachgewiesen werden konnten, gehen in Belarus regelmäßig Hunderttausende auf die Straßen, um für freie Wahlen und Demokratie zu protestieren. Viele Oppositionelle wurden verhaftet oder sogar misshandelt oder sind ins Exil geflüchtet. Doch die Proteste gehen weiter. Sie werden von mutigen Frauen angeführt, die endlich Gleichberechtigung und Demokratie erkämpfen wollen.

Über die Situation in Belarus, die Rolle der Frauen bei der Protestbewegung und mögliche Wege aus dem Konflikt, sowie Handlungsspielräume der EU, sprechen Ricarda Lang, stellvertretende Bundesvorsitzende und Frauenpolitische Sprecherin von BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN und Jamila Schäfer, stellvertretende Bundesvorsitzende und internationale und europäische Koordinatorin von BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN mit Olga Dryndova, Belarus-Expertin der Forschungsstelle Osteuropa der Universität Bremen, Nadja Kandrusevich, Aktivistin und Irina Sukhy, Umweltaktivistin bei Green Network. Belarus has been governed by a dictator for 26 years. Since massive election fraud was proven with regard to the presidential elections this summer, hundreds of thousands of people regularly take to the streets, protesting for free and fair elections. Many members of the opposition have since been detained, abused or have fled into exile. But the protests continue. They are led by brave women, fighting for equality and democracy.

Ricarda Lang, deputy chair and spokeswoman for women’s and feminist policy of BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN and Jamila Schäfer, deputy chair and european and international coordinator of BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN will discuss the situation in Belarus, the role of women in the movement and possible ways out of the conflict, as well as the room for maneuver of the European Union, with their guests: Olga Dryndova, Belarus expert at the research center on Eastern Europe of the University of Bremen; Nadja Kandrusevich, activist and Irina Sukhy, climate activist with the Green Network.
